Ohhhhh kayyyy. I’m sorry, but when did it become permissible for employers with whom you've applied to just plain old NOT RESPOND to your application submission?!?!? Like, nothing. Days, weeks, months go by. Nothing. I mean, how inappropriate and unprofessional! I'd venture to say that this issue runs rampant in many other ways in our culture. Call me old fashioned, but when did it stop being egregiously WRONG for your people -- YOUR PEOPLE -- to just ‘forget’ to call, email or text you back?! Bah!
\End rant. But for real. It's not cool guys. I would never just not respond. It's like being at a busy restaurant and all these servers keep walking by your table, but not a single one actually stops at your table! So you're famished. Your curious. And on top of that, you're darn confused! Who's going to be my server?! Will someone eventually bring me food?! How long must they torture me?!?! True end rant. What I'd like to discuss here is how decent and basic communication has really degraded. In my 31 years on this earth, I've noticed -- now more than ever -- people are busier, more self-involved, and will selectively choose to ignore or not respond to other human beings. Note the notion of 'choice'. Perhaps this is a mechanism of making oneself feel lofty or important (i.e., via the outright disregard of others). Or perhaps, this is a mechanism of avoidance (i.e., some folks just can't handle confrontation, so they ignore it and excuse it by being busy instead). So what do we do about this? Tell ya what. I'd like to grab those employers by the shoulders, shake them silly and say, "HEY! I'm a human being!" Let me know what's up -- even if I'm not getting an offer or even a second regard. "Is this how your mother raised you?!" [Ok maybe not the last part.] I say we start a movement! Back to basics y'all! And, while we're at it, how about stop using programs to auto-respond with undecipherable technical jargon too (cough cough USAJobs.gov cough...)
